As an institution under public law, Studierendenwerk Dresden is a company with a social mission and supports around 43,000 students from eight universities in Görlitz, Zittau and Dresden. The range of services includes student financing, catering in the canteens and cafeterias, halls of residence, counseling services, cultural promotion and daycare centers. The governing bodies of the Studierendenwerk are the Managing Director and the Administrative Board.
Representatives of the students and the universities sit on the Administrative Board on an equal and voluntary basis. The Administrative Board of Studierendenwerk Dresden usually meets up to five times a year. It decides on all fundamental issues: the business plan, the enactment and amendment of the statutes and the contribution regulations, the user regulations, the appointment of the auditor. The Administrative Board is made up of fourteen members (10 with a decision-making vote and four with an advisory vote), five voting members are students from the universities in Görlitz and Dresden. The StuRa of the HSZG elects a representative to the Administrative Board every two years .
